Day 1: Marrakech – Tizi n’Tichka – Ouarzazate (Approx. 220 km)
Your 6 Days Motorcycle tour in Morocco begins in Marrakech. An experienced guide from Desert Ouzina Quads will meet you in your Riad or Hotel and become acquainted with your Yamaha motorcycle. After a briefing, we began the road towards the High Atlas Mountains, passing through stunning scenery and conquering the legendary Tizi n’Tichka Pass, one of Morocco’s most spectacular highways, with an elevation of 2260 meters above sea level!
We’ll make a stop at Ait Ben Haddou, a breathtaking UNESCO-listed ksar (fortified village) that has been featured in numerous Hollywood films. After visiting its old alleyways, we continue our journey to Ouarzazate, the “Gateway to the Desert,” where we spend the night in a charming Riad.
Day 2: Ouarzazate – Draa Valley – Zagora (Approx. 190 km)
On the second day of your Motor bike adventure, we leave for Zagora after breakfast along the way we will pass by the longest river in Morocco known as the Draa Valley, a home to many palm plantations. Traveling through historic kasbahs and isolated Berber towns, the path presents an interesting combination of off-road trails, desert tracks, and picturesque highways. We begin to sense the impact of the Sahara as we move closer to Zagora: the air gets warmer, the terrain drier, and the sand dunes show on horizon. Spending the evening in this desert hamlet.
Day 3: Zagora – Off-Road to Merzouga (Erg Chebbi Dunes) (Approx. 280 km)
Today is the beginning of the actual desert experience! We leave the paved roads behind and dive on exhilarating off-road adventures across desolate desert landscapes, crossing dry riverbeds, rocky plateaus, and expansive open plains. We travel through Tafraoute Sidi Ali, a little desert settlement, on our journey to Merzouga’s famed Erg Chebbi Dunes. As the sun sets, we swap our motorcycles for camels (optional) and ride into the dunes to our desert camp, where we spend the night under a canopy of stars, listening to traditional Berber music and eating.
Day 4: Full Day Exploring the Merzouga Desert (Approx. 80 km)
A whole day to spend exploring the Sahara! After seeing the sun rise over the dunes, we get back on our bikes and ride through the Black Desert, stopping at small towns and meeting migrant families who still live in tents. Then we put our riding skills to the test on Erg Chebbi’s golden dunes, where we enjoy the thrill of sand riding. This is an exciting day for people who want to test their limits and really feel the spirit of the desert. We go back to our nice desert lodge in the evening to unwind and enjoy another night under the beautiful Saharan sky.
Day 5: Merzouga – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley (Approx. 270 km)
We leave the dunes behind and ride towards the beautiful Todra Gorge. There, over 150-meter-tall rocks form a stunning natural canyon. This is a great place to go for a short walk and take some beautiful pictures. After that, we’ll go to the Dades Valley, which is known for its winding roads and dramatic rock formations. One of the best motorbike roads in the world is in the Dades Gorge. Its famous hairpin turns make it a real thrill to ride.
Day 6: Dades Valley – Ouarzazate – Marrakech (Approx. 320 km)
We have one last exciting ride through the Atlas Mountains and beautiful scenery on our last day before getting to Ouarzazate. After a short break, we continue through the Tizi n’Tichka Pass and take in one last view of Morocco’s beautiful mountains before going back down into the busy city of Marrakech. A few important things you should know before riding the 6-day moto motorcycle tour from Marrakech to the Merzouga Desert with us. Riders needed to hold a current motorbike license and have past off-road riding experience. Our trip consists of fuel, mechanical support, well-maintained Yamaha motorcycles, lodging in hotels and desert camps, daily breakfast and dinner, and backup 4×4 support car for luggage and help. Not included are flights, travel insurance (required), lunches, beverages, and personal expenditures though.
Always include basic riding gear including a helmet, gloves, jacket, knee protection, and strong boots. Along with sunscreen, sunglasses, a compact bag, and any personal meds, comfortable, light-weight clothes for the day and warm layers for desert evenings are absolutely essential. Though winter (Nov-Feb) brings cold desert evenings, summer (June-Aug) may be rather scorching. The weather varies expect hot days and colder evenings.
Always follow the advice of the guide for safety; keep a safe space between riders; be careful on sandy, rocky, or steep ground. Drinking lots of water is quite advised since hydration is quite important. These preparations will help you to be ready for a remarkable desert adventure!
