One of drivers at Desert ouzina quads will pick up you from your host in Merzouga in a comfortable 4×4 car, and start the adventure. Your today’s first stop is a visit to a nearby nomadic family where you will be welcomed into their traditional tent and hear about their way of life, rituals, and close relationship to the desert. The trip then proceeds to the Mifis mines, on a rocky plateau. Here you will enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding desert while seeing the traces of former mining activities that previously yielded kohl and other minerals.
We will next go to the little Khamlia hamlet, where the Gnawa people originally from Sub-Saharan Africa will welcome us with their vivid spiritual singing and give us traditional mint tea. The trip culminates with a visit to Dayet Srij, a seasonal saltwater lake that, when full provides a refuge for migrating birds like flamingos, providing a dramatic contrast to the arid desert terrain.
